In 2016, Rugby 7s was played at the Olympics for the first time.
The Australian Women’s team, won the gold medal while the Australian Men’s 7s team also put in a commendable performance. Their combined success at international level has increased interest and participation in Rugby 7s.
Rugby 7s is a unique, faster, modified 15s rugby game that allows for a quick outcome finishing in just 14 minutes of play. Sydney Rugby Union has seen the number of players enjoying this game sky rocket in the last few years.
As the name implies, there are only 7 players per team on the field at any one time. The game is fast and exciting and played by all ages and abilities.
Following a series of ad hoc competitions run in conjunction with NSWRU Development staff in 2016, the decision has been made to run a competition in 2017 for both Girls and Boys in the U10s through to U18s age groups.
The Sizzling Sevens Competition runs on a Saturday evening and is open to both Girls and Boys in the U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 age groups.

The Collaroy Cougars currently fields an U12 Girls team in the Sizzling Sevens and plans to field more teams in the future.
Girls aged 8 to 10 years old can play the local Northern Beaches Girls competition. The competition is run by Warringah Junior Rugby Union with games being played between 8:30am and 1:00pm most Saturdays from around March to August.
Travel requirements are minimal with games played at Collaroy, Dee Why, Narrabeen, Newport, Pittwater, Wakehurst, Allambie, Forest, Harbord, Manly and Seaforth.
